Why do cabin crew insist that the window shades are all 'up' during take-off and landing?

I'm an ex-Flight Attendant and we were told in training to do this for several reasons.

Dye Baths

This is a pot full of dandelion flower heads which Imogen Ivan and their two friends Chloe and Michael had masses of fun gathering for me today. I was cleaning the window cill this afternoon and happened to notice the vast expanse of yellow all over our front garden so sent the colander out asking for some. They ended up weeding quite a few people's gardens for these, Imogen was of course educating people on how her Mummy is going to extract dye from the flowers, she was so proud to tell everyone on our small street all about dyeing and they all thought she was so clever. I wanted so badly to ask for the roots too but didnt want to spoil the day with anyone moaning about little holes in their gardens as the kids just rip them out in our garden not bothering to fill in any holes at all. The thing about dandelions is the more you take off the heads the more flowers they produce so they are absolutely perfect for dyeing. The roots give a beautiful delicate purple colour and when citric acid or vinegar is added it turns red. If you are skilled and remember to do it you can take some out and colour some by adding the acid so that you have a red and a purple to use from the same plants on the yarn or fibre. If you add acid to the flower heads they turn more golden than green.

coriander roots with a bit of the leaves, I was adding the leaves into the curry so got carried away with them otherwise there would have been more. Produces greens from olive to pale grassy shades, more acid = more green, cream of tartar turns it greeny brown almost creamy green.
